Castle Brae Winter Moth

Not a new species but a Winter Moth was the latest to be pulled in by the office lights

Castle Brae - new species!

Office wall uplighters score another new species with Scarce Umber. Ran the moth trap all night last night in the garden and got nothing! Alongside the Scarce there was also  Mottled, but that has been recorded before.

Small Phoenix - Castle Brae

The office wall species grows by one more. Another nice looking micro escaped while trying to capture it, sadly.

Castle Brae November Moth, 07.10.2015

A male November Moth (Epirrita dlitata) drawn to office uplighters. Poking about with the genitalia I clearly went up the wrong track, bypassing the important 8th sternite. Fortunately one prong of Sternite 8  was captured in passing and clearly appears to be the E.dilitata type.

Another office tick - Common Swift

Found on the wall at lunchtime above the uplighter. Interestingly as many mornings I checked the wall this morning and there was no sign. I'm assuming they crawl up from some hiding place during the morning

Office wall, 17/03/15 - Common Quaker

In the usual place. The second external wall light doesn't seem to have caught anything so far. I wonder what the difference is.

Office 'trap' strikes again

Wandering out to the baker's van for lunch I noticed that my office trap has worked again - this time a solo March Moth graced the wall. It seems that the wall only does one moth at a time, but that's better than nowt, and also better than my garden moth trap did last night (a few winter gnats only)

I only took one record picture before releasing it, although I should have checked the quality first!

Pale Brindled Beauty, Dunfermline

Returning from a successful Ring-billed Gull twitch at lunchtime I was surprised to find this moth on my office wall. Presumably it had been lured there by the uplights, and I'll need to keep an eye out here apparently. This is also the site of my only encounter with a Vapourer, so apparently I now have an office 'list'!

(Initially I thought this looked like a Peppered Moth, but apart from anything else it's far too small. Then I had it as possibly a Spring Usher, before its true identity was revealed to me)
