Cowdenbeath Community Woodland, 16th June

A quick blast around the pathways between 22:30 and 23:15, when it started to rain, produced remarkably good results, although perhaps not photographically! Other moths even managed to make a clean getaway but still a good haul nonetheless. NT19 doesn't have many pug records so if I can finalise that ID there's probably a new hectad record in it.

Falkland Palace, 12th June, 4 MV traps

A public mothing event at the palace saw traps out in force. Four traps were run in different corners of the palace grounds - at least until one packed up at about midnight anway. It did well before then though.

Undoubtedly the star of the show was Scorched Wing (last pic), in only its second fife site.

Also in one of the traps was a soldierfly (Chloromyia formosa) and a hoverfly (Platycheirus nielseni). If the latter is confirmed it may be the first Fife record.

About 30 species were trapped overall. I'll wait until I receive confirmation before adding the total list

Cullaloe 11th June 2015

Another quickie, 22:30-23;30, produced a few records and a long-anticipated Peach Blossom. Mostly the place was crawling with Silver-ground Carpets. Three Brown Rustics and a couple of Brimstone were also present, a pug I haven't ID'd yet and a couple of also as-yet-unidentified micros

(Pug was Brindled)

Inverkeithing, 10 June 2015 - Dark Gorse Piercer

Sinister name for a tiny botherer of Gorse. There seemed to be plenty flitting around the gorse but it didn't look any the worse for wear. Mind you I think it only bothers the seeds

Another office tick - Common Swift

Found on the wall at lunchtime above the uplighter. Interestingly as many mornings I checked the wall this morning and there was no sign. I'm assuming they crawl up from some hiding place during the morning
